MeFi Mail Art Swap Goes Informal.

Despite the use of Title-Case, the group has indeed gone informal, or underground. Possible one off or occasional guerillia-style mailings to the remaining individuals is now the modus operandi of a few stalwart individuals...

A hearty thanks to everyone who participated in the larger rounds! Your art made it great fun. Ah, treasure in the mail.

These peeps deserve an extra thanks: Interrobang and Specklet, and jon-o for the initial ideas and enthusiasm, Jessamyn for setting up and modding the first swap as well as providing guidance to the next mod, Theora55 for setting up the blog, and that rapscallion safetyfork for picking up the mantle dispite his initial claim that being the sole mod was not his intention/level of commitment (wha? can't thank myself?).

FWIW, I've only closed the comments on this (and the previous) post because this blog's gotten all spammakins on me and I don't have the admin powers to delete comments.

September's Incoming crop

Mail Art for the September 1st deadline is starting to show up! There's a few tagged here also that haven't crossed over into the public page yet. If your flickr account hasn't gone public yet but you've uploaded your picture to flickr put the link in the commments, yo!

Mailing Reminder

Just a gentle nudge, your MeFiMailSwap items should go in the mail this thursday Sept.1st. If you need to make arrangements with your swap partner I recommend getting in touch with them. Regardless, let's try to have them all uploaded to flickr by the end of the first week of September.

Kicking around themes for the next swap wouldn't be such a bad idea either if anyone wants to post them in the comments here.

New Theme, and STUFF.

There are a few more images uploaded to flicker: here and here, as well as andrew cooke's latest on his own site (+ his final blue).

As you can see there aren't that many uploaded to flickr for the last round. We've experienced more nixing, shirking, flaking out and legitimate life-changes/crises this round. Given that each partner of the set is making a unique piece of art for the other, and is usually not paired with anyone else, it can be harsh to not get anything in return. Currently, we're carrying over the same list of participants month after month.

What do people think of making it a requirement that to be carried over to the next round a picture or scan of your art needs to make it on to flickr before the 10th of each month? It's the only possible solution I can see to weeding out those who are no longer participating, and haven't informed us of it.

I'd love to hear other ideas about ways to ensure that people aren't overloaded with too many obligations to make their art, and yet, also keep their end of the bargain up with their swap buddy.

I figure it's a little late in the game for this to be implemented this round, so the rule (unless we find a better one) will go into effect for the art mailed out on Sept. 1.

If you need to opt out for any reason, please e-mail mefimailswap at gmail either before the swaplists go out (some time tomorrow), or after you get the e-mail (because you aren't reading this in time) so adjustments can be made. You can always opt back in later if need be.

The theme for the mail art that will have a mail off date of Sept 1. is:
"The Five Elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Ether."

Hey There, Newly Interested Person: If you want to get in on the mail swap action, e-mail your (user)name and physical mail address to the mefimailswap at gmail e-mail address before the end of the day (Eastern) and I'll include you in the swapset. The basics are this: you get partnered up, you make a piece of postcard sized art and take a picture or scan it and upload that image to flickr with the tag "mefimailswap" and then you mail the postcard sized art to your pal. Rinse, repeat each month.

August Reminder.

Just a gentle nudge, your MeFiMailSwap items should be en route to their recipients just about today. Feel free to e-mail (mefimailswap at gmail) if you have any questions, or want me to resend the criteria, or your buddy's address.

Also, it's time to think of a new theme and all that so swapsets can get out by the 15th of this month.
